Debbie Cates

Debbie Cates specialises in product marketing strategies and plans and has more than 20 years experience in the IT industry, gained in the UK, USA and Europe. She has a strong record of strategic analysis and planning and driving the implementation of strategies to achieve growth. 

She joined Hewlett Packard in London in 1986 and held a number of sales and marketing positions during her 15 years with the company. In the UK she formulated a strategy for HP’s professional services business via indirect sales channels and developed a start-up business within HP which provided a single source of multi-vendor software support to corporate customers using HP computer systems.

In HP’s European Marketing Centre in Germany, Debbie developed and executed product marketing plans throughout the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and had end-to-end product lifecycle management responsibility for HP’s $multi-billion printing and imaging business. She then moved to the USA to lead and manage the product marketing team in the Americas, working closely with the research and development, manufacturing and finance functions within the product division, to ensure printing and imaging products taken to market met customer needs.

After returning to Scotland in 1999, Debbie was responsible for HP’s sales to Scotland’s top corporate customers, including the Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland, Standard Life, Scottish Power, Scottish & Newcastle and others.  Fujitsu Siemens Computers then approached Debbie and asked her to assume the position of EMEA Marketing Manager for servers, PCs and related services. In this role she formulated their marketing strategy to target the small and medium enterprise (SME) segment across the EMEA region. She then went on to develop the sales and marketing strategy to address the mid-market segment, as well as implementing new telesales and

sales operations in various countries within EMEA.

Debbie’s next position was Sales and Marketing Director for a Scottish software company in the oil and gas sector, where she was responsible for the formulation of their global sales and marketing strategy and plans, as well as the line-management of both the sales and marketing functions.

Debbie holds an MBA from Henley Management College, as well as an MA from the University of Glasgow.
