Digital Industries Key to Scotland's High-Tech Future
A good part of Scotland's high technology future may reside in the "digital entertainment" sector, which already employs some 100,000 people, and generates sales of £5 billion, according to a report released recently by Young Company Finance and venture management firm 2in10.
In fact, the current employment numbers in digital entertainment nearly match those in Scotland's current financial sector, says the report, which was supported by Scottish Enterprise. The report pointed to a possible global digital entertainment marketplace estimated to be worth $1.5 trillion (£760bn).
Details of the Digital Entertainment in Scotland report and the potential of the Scottish digital industries were outlined at a one-day conference held in Glasgow and attended by some 150 delegates.
Presentations were made by 2in10 Chairman Alastair Balfour, CEO David Farquhar, 02 chief technology officer Mike Short, and others.

“If you’re going to take a product to market, you have to address the problem that the market wants solved and how it wants to buy from you, rather than always being in the garage fiddling with your toys.”
- David Farquhar, 2in10 CEO, in a recent issue of Scottish Business Insider.
I have to say that the results surpassed our expectations. All of the companies benefited greatly from the forthright advice and processes introduced by 2in10.
They are now all significantly better placed to succeed in today's highly competitive markets. The inclusive but
challenging style of the 2in10 team succeeded in building a mutual support culture amongst the directors of the various businesses, which
we hope will continue."
